Kocaeli Health and Technology University Students Visited TAI Kahramankazan Campus

Students of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences at Kocaeli Health and Technology University organized a technical visit to the Türk Havacılık ve Uzay Sanayii A.Ş. (TAI) Kahramankazan Campus, one of the important centers of the Turkish aviation and defense industry.

As part of the trip organized upon the invitation of Mehmet Kazanbaş, students reached the TAI campus in Kahramankazan, Ankara, by a shuttle departing from the university. Throughout the visit, students had the opportunity to closely examine works in the fields of aviation, defense, and space technologies.

First, at the campus, students visited the hangar where helicopter production processes are carried out. Information was provided here about the production stages of the GÖKBEY and ATAK helicopters developed with national resources. Furthermore, the ATAK 2 helicopter displayed as a prototype attracted great interest from the students. Standing out with its size and design, ATAK 2 created great admiration among the students.

In the continuation of the tour, they moved to the hangar where unmanned aerial vehicles and defense technologies were exhibited. Technical information was conveyed to the students about the ANKA, ANKA 2, ANKA 3 unmanned aerial vehicles, and the Süper Şimşek rocket. After the briefings on the areas of use, development processes, and the importance of unmanned aerial vehicles in today’s defense technologies, the students’ questions were answered.

Afterward, the hangar where structural tests of aircraft are conducted was visited. The national combat aircraft KAAN, which the students were most curious about, was also closely examined here. While providing information on the methods used in KAAN’s structural testing process, it was explained that the aircraft’s fuselage is subjected to different load conditions with the help of hundreds of pistons to undergo durability tests. Additionally, Turkey’s new generation trainer aircraft HÜRJET was given the opportunity to be seen up close by the students for the first time.

In the final part of the visit, the TAI Space Systems Assembly, Integration, and Test Center was toured. Receiving information about the test areas and ongoing work inside the center, the students had the chance to examine on-site important stages used in the development of space systems, such as vacuum tests, structural durability tests, thermal tests, and acoustic and anechoic test processes. In addition, information was provided regarding the testing processes of Turkey’s national communication satellite Türksat 6A.

At the end of the highly productive technical trip, the students expressed their gratitude to Mehmet Kazanbaş, who guided them. At the end of the visit, various gifts were presented to the students, completing the examinations at the TAI campus and concluding the tour.

With this visit, the students of Kocaeli Health and Technology University had the opportunity to combine their theoretical knowledge in the field of engineering with real production and testing processes, obtaining important gains regarding aviation, defense, and space technologies.
