Kocaeli Health and Technology University (KOSTU) Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, the Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Club, and the İzmit Municipality Life Support House organized a meaningful awareness event as part of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3. The event, held in the university’s Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation laboratory, raised awareness about disability by conducting balance assessments for individuals with special needs.
Attending the event were KOSTU Faculty of Health Sciences Dean Prof. Dr. Rabia Terzi, Department Head of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Dr. Lecturer Gönül Ertunç Gülçelik, faculty members Prof. Dr. Halil Atmaca, Dr. Lecturer Hatice Sena Çınarlı, Lecturer Gamze Aydoğan, Lecturer Ebru Sever and Res. Asst. Gizem Şekercan.
Following a moment of silence and the singing of the National Anthem, the program began with opening remarks from Faculty of Health Sciences Dean Prof. Dr. Rabia Terzi and Department Head Dr. Gönül Ertunç Gülçelik. The speeches emphasized the importance of disability awareness and the contributions of the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation in this area.
At the event, the balance performance of individuals with special needs was measured using the “Becure BalanceSystem” video-assisted balance assessment system. Participants had the opportunity to observe how this system helps identify and assess balance problems.
The event, which emphasized the importance of using technology in the field of physiotherapy and rehabilitation, gave participants new perspectives on disability and raised awareness.
The event concluded by highlighting the importance of similar efforts for the full and equal participation of individuals with special needs in society.
